Athirah Islamic School Officially Becomes the First Special Zone School in Indonesia
20 Halal Certified Canteen Tenants, Collaboration with Bank Indonesia and LPH UIN Alauddin Makassar.
Athirah Islamic School has once again made significant history in national education. On Friday, July 25, 2025, Athirah Islamic School was officially launched as a KHAS Zone (Halal, Safe, and Healthy Culinary) at the Athirah Islamic School Center in Kajolalido—making it the first school in Indonesia to achieve this designation.
The launch of the SPECIAL Zone marks the culmination of a series of capacity-building activities, fully supported by Bank Indonesia as the main sponsor. The halal certification process also involved the Halal Inspection Institute (LPH) of UIN Alauddin Makassar, which professionally supervised, audited, and established halal standards for 20 canteens or school tenants in two units, Kajolalido and Baruga.
The Head of the Bank Indonesia Representative Office in South Sulawesi, Mr. Rizki Ernadi, opened the event and expressed his appreciation for the initiative in his remarks. With this achievement, Athirah Islamic School not only ensures halal and safe food in the school environment but also plays an active role in educating a generation that cares about a healthy and sharia-compliant lifestyle. This initiative is also expected to foster halal literacy among students from an early age.
"This is a source of pride for us and the Indonesian education community. The SPECIAL Zone status is not just a symbol, but a real commitment to providing the best for our students," said Mr. Syamril, ST., M.Pd., Director of Athirah Islamic School, in his remarks.
The series of activities included the symbolic handover of halal certificates to 3 representing tenant business actors, followed by a visit to the canteen area, while practicing product halal checks by directly scanning the Halal ID barcode on each tenant poster. Mr. Dr. H. Muhammad Nur, M.Pd as secretary of the JPH Task Force of the South Sulawesi Ministry of Religious Affairs Regional Office on this occasion gave a message to the halal management team to always monitor the implementation of Halal Product Guarantee for all registered products.
At the end of the activity, Mrs. Dr. Cut Muthiadin, M.Si as the Chairperson of LPH UIN Alauddin took the time to meet the owner of the canteen who had been halal certified, and educated them on the mandate of implementing JPH and together signed an agreement with business actors and an agreement to periodically report the results of monitoring and evaluation to LPH UIN Alauddin Makassar.
Athirah Islamic School is committed to being a pioneer and inspiring other educational institutions to develop a healthy, safe, and blessed culinary environment. We hope this initiative will be followed by other schools across Indonesia, fostering a generation that is physically, mentally, and spiritually healthy.
